Meet The Team

Meet Josh Lawson

Founder & Principal Consultant | Rescue Paramedic

Sentinel (formerly The Nomad Medic) was founded on the idea that mine sites require professionals who can integrate quickly, lead calmly, and produce useful results. Josh has worked in the Australian mining industry for the past 12 years and as a paramedic for 26 years.

Josh brings a rare mix of medical expertise, leadership, and safety advisory skills to every site.
A former Army medic with advanced training in clinical diagnostics and communicable disease management, he offers far more than basic first aid; Think on-site mini-GP.

With five years on-road as a paramedic, including two in special operations, plus experience as a CrossFit gym owner and PT, Josh has a profound understanding of injury prevention, rehab, and worker wellbeing. He’s also trained in mental health counseling, helping teams manage both physical and psychological health on-site.

This broad skillset allows Sentinel to manage many minor to moderate injuries in-house, speeding up recovery and improving control over incident outcomes. Combined with leadership coaching, emergency response coordination, and senior HSET advisory experience, Josh works within the HSET team to help crews take ownership of safety, train high-performing ERT teams, and support supervisors to manage risk effectively.

Josh is also pursuing a master’s degree to become a paramedic practitioner, further enhancing Sentinel’s ability to deliver cutting-edge on-site care where it matters most.

Oh, and did we mention that he can also run nationally accredited courses onsite while still fulfilling his usual role? His Provide First Aid course is legendary; check out the reviews.

For Josh, success is simple:
"If I’ve made your team look good, helped your workforce take ownership, and kept operations running smoothly, I’ve done my job right."

Meet Jacq Lawson

Co-Owner & Registered Nurse | Perioperative Care Specialist

Jacq has spent over 14 years working in surgical and anaesthetic nursing, starting out as a veterinary surgical nurse before moving into high-acuity human perioperative care. She's worked across ENT, urology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, and PACU and loves being part of fast-paced environments where teamwork and precision matter.

One thing people notice quickly about Jacq is how easily she integrates into new teams. She adapts fast, picks up systems quickly, and works to full scope from day one. Jacq is passionate about patient safety, education, and evidence-based care and is constantly building on her skills to bring the best possible support wherever she works.

At Sentinel, Jacq's experience adds a strong clinical edge that’s rare on mine sites. Bringing advanced skills in recovery protocols, medication management, surgical instrumentation, and patient care gives our clients access to capabilities they don’t often have on-site.

For Jacq, "it’s not just about treating injuries; it’s about prevention, education, and helping people make better health choices while they work away from home.”
